报告摘要:

Ceria-supported Ni nanoparticles have attracted great attention as potential catalysts for steam reforming of ethanol and dry reforming of methane. Ceria can play a major role in the structure and chemistry of Ni particles owing to its unique redox properties and oxygen storage capacity, which is manifested by the readily reversible transformation between the Ce4+ and the Ce3+ oxidation states and the formation of oxygen vacancies. To elucidate the detailed role of ceria, our group utilized the thin film approach and engineered a series of model CeO2-δ(111) (0< δ<0.5) thin film surfaces with controlled degrees of Ce reduction as catalytic supports for Ni. We also prepared well-ordered (111)-oriented Ce1-xTixO2-δ (0<x<1, 0< δ<0.5) thin films. There has been an interest in incorporating additional metal dopant cations (e.g. Ti) into the ceria lattice to potentially enhance thermal stability as well as redox properties of ceria for its practical application in catalysis. Our combined scanning tunneling microscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies demonstrate that nanostructures and redox properties of ceria can affect the dispersion, size, chemical state, and thermal stability of Ni nanoparticles. The nature of ceria supports associated with oxygen vacancies and Ti dopants greatly influence the chemical reactivity of Ni particles upon adsorption and reaction of ethanol. Furthermore, modified structures and electronic properties of ceria by Ti dopants can provide promotional effects on the removal of carbon deposits over Ni in reforming reactions.

 

报告人简介: 

Prof. Jing Zhou, received her B. S. in Chemistry from Xiamen University in 1997 and Ph. D. in Chemistry from University of South Carolina in 2004. After three years postdoctoral studies at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, she joined the faculty of the Chemistry Department at University of Wyoming in 2007. She has received many HONORS AND AWARDS. For example, Top Prof, Cap & Gown Chapter of Mortar Board, University of Wyoming (2019, 2018); Excellence in Teaching Non-Honors Courses, University of Wyoming Honors Organization (2019); National Science Foundation Career Award (2012), etc.
