报告摘要:

We will show how the development of advanced electrochemical characterization techniques can help in better understanding the charge storage mechanisms in materials for high power electrochemical energy storage devices.

Electrochemical Quartz Crystal Microbalance (EQCM) and Dilatometry experiments were firstly used to track the ion fluxes during cation insertion in TiS2 and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) electrodes [1-2]. This set of results suggests that the improved electrochemical performance measured in porous and layered materials could be explained by the electrolyte ion partial desolvation resulting from their confinement in nanopores (porous carbons) or in interlayer spacing (2D materials) [3,4].

In a last part, we will introduce an in-plane electrochemical impedance spectroscopy technique that allows for deconvoluting the ionic and electronic contributions of the total impedance in the plane of the electrode, at different potentials [5]. This novel set-up comes as a new tool to further evaluate and improve the performance of electrode materials for energy storage devices by bringing new insights regarding the electronic and ionic transport mechanisms in energy storage electrodes during operation.
